Some outrage occured on social media after it was announced that the movie Venom got a PG13 rating. Fans hoped for an R-Rated movie, much like Logan was. Especially since Venom is one of the more violent characters in the comics. Sony however announced that the movie was going to be PG13 because they ultimately want a showdown with Spiderman. And why not? They are archenemies in the comics. And they could translate that to the big screen. I wonder if Sony still plans on making six Spiderman villain movies and then one big movie with Spiderman facing the Sinister Six.
Personally, I don’t understand the outrage at the PG13 rating. The character has been around since the megacrossover Secret Wars in the 1980s and to my knowledge, he has never been an R-Rated in the comics.
#Venom is officially rated PG-13. Hearing from studio sources the reason is so that Venom and Spider-Man can face off at some point down the line. If the movie is R, it’s hard to do that. pic.twitter.com/dBZzgY18k3

Venom is one dimensional
While Venom is a very popular character in the comics and has received from fans and critics, I find him pretty one dimensional. Ultimately, all he wants to do is kill Spiderman and do it slowly. I mean if you read Spiderman throughout the 80s and the 90s, that’s all you ever see him do. You never see him do anything else. Oh wait, the time he gave birth to Carnage. Then him and Spiderman had a common enemy. But once that was finished, he’s back to trying to kill Spiderman. For me it went up to the point where you are watching Wil E. Coyote trying to catch the Road Runner.
Despite my poor opinion on the comicbook character, I am still going to watch the movie. The movie premiers on October 5, 2018.
What are your expectations of the Venom movie?
