Ok here we go, my first review for ComicWonks. And what a way to start, Old Man Logan #50. We all know up front he isn’t going to die in this last issue because of the “Dead Man Logan” follow-up but him against Maestro just sounds like a perfect finish for old man Logan.
Old Man Logan head first against Maestro
The last couple of issues he tried going head first against Maestro and lost every time, and even after getting beaten senseless he just goes back in again like it is the normal thing to do. No calling in help from the X-men or Avengers, and just like that Maestro has him pinned down again. His last option is to use Regenix(recover potion to mimic Wolverines power) because his healing went out the window. And just when he wants to use he gets another beat down from the Maestro, and the Regenix drops between some random bystanders.
We jump to a scene about a poor kid who got shot but it just feels like a page filler because we already now people are killed by Maestro, so why is this one so important?
We jump back to the fight with Logan and Maestro, he is still losing(what a surprise) and we see a kid running of with the Regenix. And yes the mom of the kid is starting a rebellion and she will give the Regenix to Logan to give him a chance. You don’t even need to read the following pages to figure that out.
The only interesting thing is where you see Maestro with a woman in bed and he sends her away, but not before she asks “If you need me to—“. What can such a small woman do for a Hulk? Or is everything disproportional for Hulk in the downstairs area? Is this why he is always mad? Just makes you think.
Later the fight continues and we see Logan using the Regenix and fighting back, then Maestro jumps away like only the Hulk can. What happens to Logan at that moment is unclear but sooner or later he catches up with Maestro. Maestro reveals his Interdimensional/Time traveling machine, if you have something like that why in the hell go to earth 616? Why?
Maestro beats up the machine and the final showdown starts. In a finale blow Logan decapitates Maestro. Huh? Let me read that again? This was always an option? Why not directly start with this move and why first go snikt-snikt. This just looks like weak writing and that he needed to finish it quickly because he had 2 pages left. We see Logan falling to the ground like he now had too much and this was his final fight.
Old Man Logan conclusion
This series started off so good, he wanted to prevent his future and started killing the ones who created it in his timeline. Logan was different than the original Wolverine. He was more on edge and wanted to do anything to stop the possible future. He dies trying to eventually go back to his own time line? This makes no sense, a nice series with great potential just finished sloppy and this is a bad setup for the “Dead Man Logan”. I did my best to not sound too melodramatic for my first review here but they didn’t leave me any other choice.
This comic gets 2 out of 5 stars.
