James Gunn can do no wrong for a lot of Marvel movie fans. Gunn got fired over questionable tweets and comments he made 10 years ago and Disney saw him out. There was a lot of controversy among fans and pundits alike. 10 years ago is a long time and a person can have changed during that time.
Some fans are just bad at letting things go. We don’t mean that in a negative way at all here at ComicWonks but Gunn recently got hired by competitor DC Comics to do Suicide Squad 2. A good move, in our opinion. James Gunn is a great director and can boost the DC Cinematic Universe to new heights. But again, sometimes, fans have trouble letting things go.
This is a perfect example of what we mean:
James Gunn Billboard to rehire
A crowdfunded billboard in favor of rehiring James Gunn has popped up about 4 miles away from Disneyland.
One of the people behind the billboard, Giuseppe Cincinnato of Rehirejamesgunn.com, had this to say. “We really love Gunn as both a creator and the man we’ve seen him mature into. Even if this wasn’t going to cause Disney to see their mistake, we could at least show James Gunn how much support he has in his corner of the galaxy.”

Guardians of the Galaxy on hold indefinitely
While we are big fans of The Guardians of The Galaxy and the way Gunn directed the movies, we don’t think it will help much. The Guardians project is currently on hold and Gunn is already actively working on Suicide Squad 2. On top of that Dave Bautista, who plays Drax, has suggested that he will quit the GotG franchise over the removal of his friend Gunn.
Said Bautista on the Jonathan Ross show: “There’s a bit of an issue,” he said. “It’s a bitter-sweet conversation. No, it’s a bitter-bitter conversation because I’m not really happy with what they’ve done with James Gunn. They’re putting the movie off. It’s on hold indefinitely. To be honest with you I don’t know if I want to work for Disney.”
Another reason why we think that the billboard won’t do much is that Disney doesn’t exactly have a reputation of rehiring people they just fired. In Gunn’s case, they fired him to avoid controversy. Instead, they created more controversy and rehiring will stir up controversy again. Plus what signal does Disney give if they fire him and then rehire him? Not a good one. It would be very bad for their image.
But then again, you never know. Disney may just get mindtricked by Professor Proton into rehiring James Gunn to make the dream of Guardians of the Galaxy vol 3 happen for a lot of fans. It’s just that the possbility of that are slim to none.
