Here we go, in the middle of another big spider event we see Peter Parker (Earth-616 to be precise) go off against the Inheritoirs’ favored son Morlun. For those who are reading the Spider-Geddon event; the original Peter Parker hasn’t had a big role in the event until now. So I wonder why the whole Morlun versus Peter is so separate from the rest? I hope it has a big reveal during the event and not just because Morlun is a stubborn super creep.
The comic itself is nicely drawn, just enough details on the faces and the darkness from Morlun does jump of the pages. You can see why Peter is afraid of him.
Spiderman’s absence is felt throughout the comic
There are just 2 things that really bother me about this comic;
1. When Miles Morales jumps in and fights Morlun he gets knocked down and a page later we jump back to Peter Parker, a minute later Morlun jumps Peter again. What happened to Miles? Why did Morlun not eat him?
2. The inconsistency on Spiderman’s broken suit, one page he misses the part on the ribs, a page later he misses a part on the belly, a page later the whole top part of the suit is correct. This feels a bit messy to me.
The comic wraps up with Peter telling Miles to leave him alone to fight Morlun because he doesn’t want to worry about other people around. This makes sense because other Spiders are only going to make Morlun stronger when he eats them. And on the last page we see Jonah to the rescue with an army of cops, which we can all predict is going to be the opposite.
So it’s a nice comic and keeps true to the Spectacular Spiderman serie. It stays away from the big Spider-Geddon event and focusses on the fight between Spiderman and Morlun. But is the original Spiderman not what is missing for Spider-Geddon? Because the whole event feels like it is missing something.
This Comic gets 2 out of 5 stars.
